One of the most famous and popular trials for sled dogs is the Iditarod. This trial held first in 1973 tests Siberian Huskies' abilities to endure hard conditions, long distances, and exhaustive speeds with the strive and courage the dogs showed many years ago, in 1925. The trip was about 658 miles (1053km) long and was a challenge for both the dogs and mushers. Usually, it took no less than nine days to go from Nenana to Nome.
